Stevie Wonder Changed His Comment on Frank Ocean’s Coming Out

When singer Frank Ocean came out, many stars congratulated him. The media praised him for coming out of the closet. While most other celebrities’ comments on Frank’s coming out were taken positively, Stevie’s was misunderstood by several fans.

His statement sounded a little homophobic to the followers. In his previous statement on Frank Ocean’s sexuality, he said,

“I think honestly some people who think they’re gay are confused. People can misconstrue closeness for love. People can feel concrete; they bond. I am not all. Some people have the desire to be with the same s*x. But That’s them.”

This comment triggered many gay people; some even said he was homophobic. However, Stevie Wonder just stated that most straight men and women think. Later, the “Isn’t She Lovely” singer apologized for the previous statement.

He said, “I’m sorry that my words about anyone feeling confused about their love were misunderstood.”

He then defended himself, saying, “No one has been a greater advocate for the power of love in this world than I, both in my life and in my music. Wonder once again mentioned that love between all genders is the same.”

He added, “Clearly, love is love between a man and a woman, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman and a man and a man. What I’m not confused about is the world needing much more love, no hate, no prejudice, no bigotry, and more unity, peace, and understanding.”

Through his speech, Stevie was neither homophobic nor was proving himself gay.

Final Words

Did you listen to Stevie Wonder’s and gay singer George Michael’s ‘Love in Need of Love Today’? It was mainly made for LGBTQ people. Stevie has been a prominent ally of the LGBT community.

But he is not gay. He also believes that not everyone is really gay. Some are confused and consider themselves LGBT for liking a same-s*x person. It definitely sounds a bit homophobic. This is why he was criticized.

Later he explained things and said sorry to gay people who got triggered by his first statement on Frank Ocean’s coming out.
